Technical Analysis Basics

Technical analysis studies historical price and volume to make probabilistic decisions about future moves. It's a lens, not a crystal ball.

// technical-analysisguide.featured

Technical analysis (TA) is the practice of reading charts. It assumes that price action reflects everything known about an asset and that human behaviour leaves recognizable patterns. TA is not predictive in a deterministic sense — it shifts the odds, no more.

Chart timeframes

The same instrument can look bullish on a one-hour chart and bearish on a weekly chart. Multiple-timeframe analysis — examining a higher timeframe for context and a lower one for execution — is one of the most useful habits a trader can develop.

Support and resistance

Levels where price has previously reversed often act as decision zones in the future. Horizontal levels, trendlines, prior highs/lows, and round numbers are all variations of the same idea: price has memory at meaningful zones.

Key Takeaway
Levels are zones, not exact lines. Treating them as precise pixels causes premature entries and bad stops.

Common indicators

Moving averages

Smooth price to reveal direction. The 20, 50 and 200-period moving averages are widely watched. Cross-overs are popular but lagging.

RSI (Relative Strength Index)

Momentum oscillator from 0 to 100. Readings above 70 are often called overbought, below 30 oversold — but these can persist for long periods in trending markets.

MACD

Combines two moving averages into a momentum view. Useful for detecting shifts in trend, with the usual caveat of lag.

Price action

Price action focuses on the structure of bars and candles themselves, without leaning on indicators. Engulfing candles, pin bars, inside bars and break-of-structure events are the vocabulary. Many experienced traders eventually simplify to price action plus one or two indicators.

Risk Note
No indicator generates consistent profit on its own. Indicators provide structure; risk management and psychology determine outcomes.

Why TA matters when evaluating platforms

When researching a platform like Blumberg Global, the quality of the charting environment matters: rendering speed, drawing tools, multi-timeframe layouts, and data integrity. A platform that displays charts with delay or with poor resolution will compromise even the best technical setup.
